ALBANY, NY- On going staffing shortages has sparked the latest move in New York’s prison system.
If an inmate is within 110-days of release, there is a good chance that they will be let out early.
This development is according to a memorandum published by the DOCCS, with a goal of establishing a database of inmates who could be let out early.
To clarify, the pool of inmates considered for an early release will have to meet the statutory requirements. In other words, those serving sentences for class A-1 or A-2 non-drug offenses, or felonies (B – E) and sex offenses, will not be qualified for an early release.
Some 2,000 guards were terminated only a few weeks ago because they refused the final terms that stemmed from a wildcat strike that lasted several weeks at prisons statewide.
