ALBANY, NY- We are past April 1 and New York’s Fiscal Year 2024 State Budget has not passed (as of this report).

That means it is late and there is still uncertainty to when it may pass. “A late budget has fiscal implications for our state, putting the funding of critical state programs in limbo, leaving schools and municipalities waiting to enact their own budgets in the dark and the pay of our hardworking state employees in jeopardy,” said New York State Senator Joe Griffo (R, C – Rome).

Last-year, the budget was over a week late before lawmakers could reach a deal.

Although it’s not directly clear as to what exactly is holding up the budget this spring, a hot topic going into this legislative session was bail reform.

Hochul has been iterating further proposed changes to the law, including providing judges more discretion on a case by case basis over whether defendants should have a bail set.

As of this report, Griffo said there have been few concrete indications made by the legislative majorities that suggest an agreement is near.
