The U.S. average price for a gallon of gas was just under $3.80 Tuesday, according to the AAA.
Since a $5 peak for several areas months ago, prices have been on a slow but steady decline as we ease towards fall. As of Tuesday, an average gallon of gas in New York State cost $4.
Here locally, gas has fallen to as low as $3.89 in Lowville, NY, according to GasBuddy. Prices in Boonville have fallen under $4.20 as well.

Last year at this time, average gas prices statewide were just below $3.30.
According to the AAA, lower oil prices, modest domestic gasoline demand, and a quiet hurricane season are combining to drive pump prices down.
