ALBANY, NY- Nearly 45,000 tickets were issued during this year’s Halloween enforcement crackdown across New York.
Sponsored via the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and enforced thanks to partnerships between the State Police and local law enforcement, officials say most tickets focused on various vehicle and traffic law violations, but Troopers managed to cite 1,210 motorists for impaired driving.
Another 8,701 drivers were cited for speeding. “When children and parents are out walking on holidays such as Halloween, it’s even more critical for us to elevate the level of awareness and urge motorists to exercise extra caution,” said New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James.
“We know that there is a greater risk of pedestrian crashes, especially those involving children, and crashes involving impaired drivers on Halloween,” said Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner and GTSC Chair Mark J.F. Schroeder.
The Halloween impaired driving enforcement campaign is one of several coordinated initiatives sponsored by the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) to reduce alcohol and other drug-related traffic crashes.
