What a difference a year makes. A year ago now, New Yorkers were paying an average of $5 for just one gallon of gas.
Now, the average state price hovers around $3.70 as of this report, while the national average is just shy of $3.60.
“We may be in a bit of a demand lull heading into the July Fourth holiday,” said AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross.
“Drivers are benefitting financially, with 20 gallons of gas costing nearly $30 less than last year. And with the cost for oil low, drivers will find pump prices that are flat or drifting slightly lower for now.”
Gas prices have remained stubborn locally this spring since a long decline from last-year’s peak prices. Last month, average prices statewide were around $3.65.
As of Thursday, pump prices in Lowville, NY were just north of $3.70, according to GasBuddy. Meanwhile, prices in Boonville were slightly higher at $3.85.
Prices in the Syracuse, NY area are not much cheaper, with the lowest prices at $3.69. Watertown, NY area is similar for the most part, with the cheapest price just below $3.60.
Prices in the Utica, NY area are mostly near $3.80, with the cheapest at $3.69.
