ALBANY, NY- New York lawmakers in the democratically controlled legislature passed a new set of congressional maps Wednesday after initially rejecting proposed district lines offered up by the state’s Independent Redistricting Commission on Monday.

This is according to the latest from the Associated Press.

These new maps, designed by the state legislature, were subsequently signed by Governor Kathy Hochul, however; there are reports that suggest Republicans are considering countering with legal challenges.

If these new maps survive any potential legal challenges, the most notable changes involve districts down on Long Island.

For the North Country region, the most significant changes revolve around NY-22, represented by Brandon Williams (R).

His district, without any possible changes from legal retaliation, will encompass now only the southern half of Oneida County, along with southern Cayuga County, northern Cortland County and all of Onondaga and Madison Counties.

For the 21st Congressional District, represented by Elise Stefanik (R), she will still represent Fort Drum, but will lose parts of Jefferson and Montgomery Counties, as well as losing Rensselaer and Otsego Counties, according to a statement from her office.

Meanwhile, Stefanik will subsequently gain parts of both Saratoga and Oneida Counties.
