ALBANY, NY- “Our New York, Our Future” was the main theme around Governor Kathy’s Hochul’s 2024 State of the State Address, which was delivered this week from the Capitol in Albany, NY.
During her speech, Governor Hochul claimed that the State of New York is “stronger, healthier, safer and more affordable” when compared to the summer she first took office two-years-ago.
According to Hochul’s office, this State of the State includes 204 bold initiatives to make New York more affordable, more livable and safer, but North Country lawmakers have not been shy about voicing their reactions.
“Throwing tax dollars around and infringing upon the rights from our founding isn’t going to address the affordability crisis every New Yorker faces. Or the outmigration we’ve seen over the past decade,” said State Senator Mark Walczyk.

“Over the last several years, state spending has reached unsustainable levels and spiraled out of control under the leadership of this administration and the legislative majorities who control state government. This year will be especially difficult as we face a significant $4.3 billion budget deficit,” said State Senator Joe Griffo.

“Instead of just telling our constituents things will get better someday, it’s time we take a step back and re-evaluate our current strategies,” said State Assemblyman Robert Smullen.
