JEFFERSON COUNTY- A North Country man faces four felony charges for allegedly beating his own mother during an assault over the winter.
According to a Jefferson County grand jury indictment, Jeffrey D. Fineout, 41, faces felony charges of attempted manslaughter in the first-degree; assault in the first and second degree and endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person in the first-degree.
Members from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were called to Carthage Area Hospital on February 13 regarding a possible assault victim.
Investigation revealed that Jee Y. Fineout, 72, was suffering from what officials described as brain bleeds, rib and spine fractures, along with numerous contusions in various stages of healing.
These injuries, according to police, were classified as life threatening and were not accidental in nature. Though the incident reportedly occurred several weeks’ prior, detectives recently learned that Jee Fineout died last Saturday.
Through further investigation, Mr. Fineout was identified as the primary suspect. He was taken into custody on May 1 and awaits an arraignment in Jefferson County Court, officials said.
In addition, Sarah M. Taber, 31, of Philadelphia, NY, who was allegedly present during Fineout’s arrest, was arrested on unrelated misdemeanor charges of obstructing governmental administration in the second-degree and resisting arrest.
Taber was released with appearance tickets and is due back in court later on this month.
Members of the New York State Police assisted.
