North Country Rep. Stefanik supports President Trump’s executive orders aimed at squashing cashless bail policies
WASHINGTON, D.C. – North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY-21) says she supports the latest round of executive orders signed by President Donald Trump to eliminate cashless bail in Washington, D.C. and several like policies that have been enacted in various jurisdictions around the country.
Since 2020, New York State has had its own list of crimes that no longer require any bail, which remains a hot controversy to this day since.
“New Yorkers want law and order and tough on crime policies to bring safety back to our great state,” Stefanik claimed in her statement (read full remarks below).
"Kathy Hochul and NY Democrats failed bail reform has been a catastrophic disaster leading to a crime crisis in New York making every family and community less safe. Again and again, Kathy Hochul has prioritized violent criminals over law abiding New Yorkers. Enough is enough. I strongly support President Trump’s Executive Order to end cashless bail. I will be working to lead the effort in Congress to codify this Executive Order with legislation. For too long, New Yorkers have suffered violent crimes and even lost their lives due to Kathy Hochul and single party Democrat rule’s dangerous anti-police, pro-criminal policies. New Yorkers want law and order and tough on crime policies to bring safety back to our great state."
One of the President’s latest moves this month involved deploying the National Guard on the Nation’s Capital City with aims to crack down on crime, going as far to declare the general D.C. area to be “lawless,” though numerous sources and reports have remained steady with the claim that crime rates there had been declining before the President’s blitz.
Last Friday, the President hinted at possibly enacting similar National Guard deployment moves on Chicago, IL and New York, NY.
In his latest round of executive orders, the President has reportedly threatened to withhold federal funding from jurisdictions that refuse to do away with cashless bail.
Despite the lash-back, several figures in New York, including Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul and others, remain steady with defending bail reform measures, iterating that it levels out the playing field for those accused of a crime but may not have the resources to make bail.
