
JEFFERSON, LEWIS & OSWEGO COUNTIES: FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 2 PM EDT MONDAY AFTERNOON.
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...A portion of central New York, including the following counties, Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego.
* WHEN...Until 200 PM EDT Monday, August 19.
* IMPACTS...Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water. Streams can continue to rise several hours after the heavy rain has ended, and may flow across roadways.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...At 757 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain this morning, with between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain in parts of the warned area. This, combined with rainfall yesterday will result in flooding in low lying areas and along some small creeks and streams. There also will be ponding of water on area roadways including portions of Interstate 81. Some locations that will experience flooding include... Sandy Island Beach State Park, Lowville, Pulaski, Redfield, Barnes Corners, Highmarket, Whetstone Gulf State Park, Selkirk Shores State Park, Mexico Point State Park, Hastings, Richland, Denmark, New Haven, New Bremen, Watson, Mexico, Martinsburg, Williamstown, Greig and Orwell.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
