ONEIDA COUNTY- Authorities are investigating the death of a local resident, who died while in police custody.

At around 11:30 p.m. Monday, New York State Police responded to a 9-1-1 call on the Sand Ridge Road, near the Barneveld, NY area, for a person who was behaving erratically.

While Troopers tried engaging with Matthew A. Brown, 30, of Barneveld, NY, it’s reported that he suddenly lunged for a Trooper’s holstered firearm.

After a brief struggle, Troopers managed to handcuff him without any further incident.

On the other hand, while waiting on the arrival of medical personnel for an evaluation, it’s reported that Brown became unresponsive.

In response, emergency responders immediately began life saving measures, but despite their attempts, Brown was officially pronounced deceased.

As a standard procedure to state law, the New York Attorney General has been notified of the death.

No further details are currently available, yet the investigation remains on going.
