NYSP: Pilot identified in Jefferson County helicopter crash

WEST CARTHAGE- The pilot in a fatal Jefferson County helicopter crash over the weekend has been identified.

Gary R. Johnson, 65, of Carthage, NY was pronounced deceased by medical officials at a local hospital in the wake of a helicopter crash Saturday morning in West Carthage, NY.

It happened a little while before noontime near Liberty Street.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Johnson was seriously injured in the crash and was taken to Carthage Area Hospital.

FAA and NTSB are expected to continue the investigation.

Any additional updates will be released from FAA and NTSB.
