
UTICA- One dozen recruits have successfully graduated the latest Oneida County Corrections Officer Academy session.
Sheriff Rob Maciol says these recruits have been training for several weeks alongside other recruits with Mohawk Valley Police Academy.
The Corrections Academy consists of: classroom learning, practical exercises, physical fitness training, and military drills.
As usual, the Sheriff’s Department extends their recruiting efforts to neighboring counties who have officers in need of their basic training. These latest graduates represent Oneida, Herkimer and Madison Counties.
All three Sheriff’s representing the recruits took part in the ceremony by pinning the badges.
These graduating Correction Officers are:
- Allana Schwartz - Oneida County
- Savannah Tittle - Oneida County
- Shawn Yocum - Oneida County
- Robert Hughes - Oneida County
- Demetria Lunny - Oneida County
- Jack Oczkowski - Oneida County
- Kamren Patnode - Oneida County
- Tyler Pelton - Oneida County
- Douglas Hight - Herkimer County
- Jalen Hubbard - Herkimer County
- Connor Koppany - Herkimer County
- Matthew Molinari - Madison County
As a reminder, Oneida County has officially eliminated the written examination for correction officers and has replaced it with on online questionnaire to help speed up the process of hiring more officers.
The application deadline for the written correction officer exam scheduled for December was originally set for Nov. 4, but with the adoption of the new online model, has been extended to November 29.
