ALBANY, NY- On Tuesday, December 23, 2025, New York State Senator, Joe Griffo (R,C,I - ROME), joined North Country News and discussed a recent enactment of New York's Cash Acceptance Law.
Thanks to Governor Kathy Hochul's latest signature on New York Senate Bill S4153A, the law will now enforce sweeping new regulations requiring places like retail establishments and food stores to accept cash payments.
Specifically, the law, which will be fully effective on March 20, 2026 (120 days from its signing), also prohibits charging cash-paying customers more than those using other payment methods.
In our latest on-air segment with Joe Griffo, the Senator listed off a list of places, such as sporting venues and others, that all of a sudden went cashless.
The Senator advocated for this bill to be signed into law on the basis that cash is a legal form of tender and must be accepted for all transactions, both private and public.
