LEWIS- In a follow-up to last-weeks publication, we had the chance to catch up with Lewis Town Supervisor, Dawn Zagurski; Town Councilman, Karl Rauscher and Jamie Deines (Town of Lewis taxpayer) over the latest tax conundrum that has surfaced.
In a nutshell, it revolves around a court case against the city of Rome, NY over a dam that had an assessment value of $18-million, but since has dwindled down to $4.8-million.
As a result, the State Equalization Rate Percentage has also dropped to nearly 53%, meaning town of Lewis taxpayers will have to make up the difference, and many are saying that the next tax bills will be devastating.
