
NEW BREMEN- On person is receiving post exposure treatment after having direct contact with a cat that tested positive for rabies in Lewis County.
This development is according to a notice from the Public Health Office on Monday. The incident occurred in the town of New Bremen and the positive results were confirmed via the New York Department of Health Wadsworth Laboratory.
Regardless of where you live, officials from the public health office warn it is very important to ensure your household pets, if you have any, are kept up to date with their rabies shots.
Rabies is a very serious and potentially deadly disease that can be transmitted from infected animals to humans via saliva, such as a bite or a scratch.
Lewis County Public Health reminds of its next and upcoming rabies vaccine clinic this Saturday, January 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Maple Ridge Center (East Road), Lowville, NY.
