Pair of suspects from Oneida County facing felony and misdemeanor charges in Rome child abuse investigation

ROME- A child abuse investigation has resulted in various felony and misdemeanor accusations filed against a pair of area residents.

Through a Sheriff’s Office investigation, it was determined that William Coonrod Sr., of the Town of Lee and William Coonrod Jr., of the City of Rome, did intentionally cause physical injury to a child less than seven years old in April, 2025.

Coonrod Sr. was arrested last Friday in the City of Rome, NY. Meanwhile, Coonrod Jr. turned himself in to the Sheriff’s Office.

Coonrod Sr. and Coonrod Jr., were both charged with one count felony count each of assault in the second degree, along with one misdemeanor count each of endangering the welfare of a child.

Additionally, Coonrod Sr. was charged further misdemeanor counts of with criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child, for an incident involving a second male child.

Coonrod Sr. and Coonrod Jr. were processed and arraigned.

Upon arraignment, Coonrod Jr. was remanded to the OCCF in lieu of $10,000 cash bail/$20,000 bond. Coonrod Sr. was remanded to the OCCF in lieu of $5,000 cash bail/$10,000 bond.

Orders of protection were issued upon arraignment.
