LEWIS COUNTY- People from the village of Copenhagen, NY who would like to prevent their fire department from being dissolved have until October 21 to petition a referendum.
As previously reported, the village board voted in favor to disband the department on September 21, but according to a public notice from Village Clerk, Lori Wheeler, residents have 30-days to petition against the resolution since it is held to permissive referendum.
In order for a petition to be successful, a certain number of signatures are needed.
It was reported previously that 20% of the number of village residents who participated by voting in the last general election, which was in March.
