POLICE: Collision near Forestport results in local fatality

ONEIDA COUNTY- A collision in Northern Oneida County Thursday evening has claimed the life of a local man, authorities are reporting.

It happened shortly after 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 12 and Dustin Road, near the Kayuta Drive In.

According to investigation thus far via the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, Kolby Lyon, 30, of Forestport, NY was driving a 2011 white Honda Civic southbound on State Route 12.

Investigators say Lyon attempted to turn left onto Dustin Road from Route 12, subsequently colliding with a 2022 gray Nissan traveling northbound, operated by Carissa Huber, 25, of Westfield, New Jersey.

Lyon was pronounced deceased on scene.

Huber was not injured as a result of the accident. Huber's passenger, Carter Kelly, 24, of Old Forge, was transported by private vehicle to Wynn Hospital, for non-life-threatening injuries.

A portion of Route 12 was closed as Sheriff's Investigators reconstructed the accident, however; the roadway since has re-opened. 

Sheriff's officials were assisted on scene by Remsen and Barneveld Fire Departments, along with STaR Ambulance, Shufelt's Towing, Growers Collision, NYS DOT, and the Onondaga County Medical Examiners Office.
