JEFFERSON COUNTY- A woman from the North Country is facing numerous charges of welfare fraud for receiving benefits she was not entitled to.

Shannon Ball, 38, of Carthage, NY is formally charged by the Watertown City Police Department with felony counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first-degree, welfare fraud and grand larceny in the third-degrees and the misuse of food stamps.

Police allege that Ball fabricated her household income regarding applications for SNAP benefits.

Investigators say she received $40,000 worth of assistance that she was not legally entitled to.

Following an arraignment in Watertown City Court, Ball was released.
