DENMARK- A Lewis County man is accused of having a BAC over twice the legal limit following a traffic stop late Wednesday, authorities say.
Timothy J. Berrus, 55, of Lowville, NY is officially charged by the Sheriff’s Office with felony aggravated intoxicated driving following a traffic stop in the town of Denmark.
Deputies say they pulled over a 2017 Nisan Rouge on State Route 26 in the town of Denmark shortly before 11:00 p.m. The vehicle was reportedly heading south without any working tail lamps.
Berrus, the reported driver, appeared intoxicated during questioning, deputies said. He subsequently failed field sobriety tests on scene before being taken to the Public Safety Building.
While there, it’s reported that Berrus registered a .19% BAC. He’s faced with the felony DWI charge, due to a prior conviction.
Police also charged Berrus with other unspecified traffic infractions.
All charges are returnable to Denmark Town Court at a later date.
