LOWVILLE- "This was a call that could have gone from bad to worse really quickly." That's what Lowville Fire Chief Joe Austin said in the aftermath of Friday's porch fire at the East Road Adult Home, on the East Road.
It happened shortly before 11:30 a.m. Fortunately, no injuries were reported and everyone was evacuated from the facility safely.
At press time, Chief Austin said the fire was sparked on the front porch from an improperly disposed cigarette.
Castorland Fire Department was called for mutual aid.
The fire was contained to the front porch area. Responders were on-scene for about 30-minutes.
Members from the New York State Police and Lewis County Sheriff's Office provided assistance.
