MARTINSBURG- The Red Cross is currently assisting a family whose house was damaged by flames Wednesday morning in Lewis County.
It was shortly after 11:00 a.m. when 9-1-1 dispatch received reports of a structure fire at 6335 State Route 26, near Martinsburg, NY.
According to the office of Lewis County Emergency Management, a passerby witnessed that the house was on fire. Martinsburg was the primary fire department on scene, with mutual aid thanks to 3-G and Lowville.
A portion of State Route 26 was temporarily closed down, but since has re-opened.
Thanks to a quick response and aggressive firefighter strategy, the fire damage was kept limited, however; there was additional smoke and water damage throughout once the blaze was tamed.
The home is owned by Brian and Kate Villeneuve and the Red Cross has been contacted to assist.
Although officials mentioned the origin for this blaze seemed to be the laundry room, an official investigation is underway.
No injuries were reported.
Members from Search & Rescue, the Sheriff’s Office, State Police, Cause & Origin and National Grid all assisted.
