ALBANY- A federal judge has rejected an attempt by the Trump administration to stop New York from giving people driver’s licenses through the state’s Green Light Law, without having them prove that they are in the country legally.

This development is according to the latest from the Associated Press.

In Albany, NY, U.S. District Judge Anne M. Nardacci ruled that the Republican administration, which previously challenged the law under President Trump’s crackdown on immigration, had apparently failed to support its claims that the law usurps federal law, or that it unlawfully regulates or unlawfully discriminates against the federal government.

Last February, the DOJ sued New York State over its Green Light Law, where U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi blasted Governor Hochul for prioritizing “illegal aliens over American citizens.”

The law has been consistently supported by Democrats, while at the same time scrutinized negatively by Republican figures, including those representing the North Country.
