ALBANY, NY- Governor Kathy Hochul has reportedly misspoken about a critical point involved with the 2022 massacre at a Buffalo, NY supermarket.
On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a Trump-era ban on bump-stocks, an accessory that can be used to dramatically enhance firing rates for semi-automatic rifles (think the Las Vegas mass shooting in the fall of 2017).
Shortly after the Supreme Court decision, Governor Kathy Hochul issued a statement that incorrectly suggested the gunman in the Buffalo shooting used a bump-stock, a declaration the Associated Press reports is incorrect.
The Governor’s statement, which was also posted to X, or formally known as Twitter, has since been taken down.
When questioned about the statement, officials from Hochul’s office clarified that she was intending to call out “dangerous, illegal modifications of weapons” to which she says serves no purpose, other than to inflict mass casualties.
Soon after the shooting in Buffalo, the New York Legislature enacted a new package of laws, including bans on selling semi-automatic rifles to anyone under 21, while also restricting the sales of bulletproof vests.
