LEWIS COUNTY- A project that will ultimately add two new groundwater wells for Lowville is now underway.
A ground-breaking ceremony, including GYMO Engineering and local officials, took place Wednesday. The goal of this project is to help eliminate the water woes Lowville residents have endured over the past few years.
In addition, the project will make some needed upgrades to the current water treatment facility.
Officials say the project cost is $5.7-million and once the new wells are finished, officials say Lowville will have access to an additional 500,000 gallons per-day.
βThe village source now is over 2 million gallons per day. It should certainly reduce those emergency situations,β GYMO Managing Engineer Matt Cervini told reporters from WWNY-TV.
As long as things continue along smoothly, officials say the new wells should be running by spring of 2023.
