REPORT: New York State to pay record settlement to family of Robert Brooks

ONEIDA COUNTY- The family of Robert Brooks, the former and now late inmate who was beaten to death by prison guards at Marcy Correctional Facility in December, 2024, will receive a record settlement from New York.

WKTV reports that the state has agreed to pay $24 million to the children of Robert Brooks, which would settle all claims against the state and against New York’s Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

A total of seven CO’s found responsible for their roles in the beating have been sentenced to prison. Robert Brooks Jr., a son to Robert, told reporters how no amount of money will ever replace the pain felt from losing his father.

It is reported the Brooks family is intending to use the settlement to help build a foundation in their family name.
