WASHINGTON, D.C. – North Country Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY-21) is accusing the Democrats of using this ongoing federal lapse as political leverage during this latest election.
This development comes to light as Stefanik spoke recently with reporters from WWNY-TV.
She reportedly blamed Democrats for putting those who rely on food assistance in their current position and believes that Democrats will also end the shutdown sometime after election day, which was Tuesday, November 4.
“Ultimately, I think Chuck Schumer will fold because he has hurt the American people and there will be a clean funding bill to get this done out of the Senate, which the House has already done,” Stefanik told reporters.
Meanwhile amidst this latest government shutdown, where federal employees remain furloughed or working without any pay, Senator Schumer (D-NY) has been accusing President Trump of using food stamps as political leverage.
While the blame shifting continues, it appears the fate of health care tax credits remains the key point of argument between the two sides, as Democrats want them to remain, while the Republicans are calling for them to be done away with.
Democratic leaders have been sounding the alarm if those tax credits are eliminated, healthcare costs for many are expected to rise significantly.
