TURIN- The village is faced with a $7 million project to upgrade the community’s water system and thanks to a grant, nearly 70% of the cost will be covered.
This update is according to a notice released to us via Mayor Josh Leviker.
The grant, ringing in just shy of $5 million, is funded through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund. “Project to be bid in fall of 2024, with a spring ground breaking in 2025,” the Mayor told us.
The project will accomplish needed improvements to the village water system, while also replacing the iconic water tower.
Specifically, plans include new water mains / hydrants on State Route 26, from the south end of town and all the way to the intersection past Steak & Brew.
Furthermore, the project has aims for new mains / hydrants all the way down West Road, between State Route 26/West Main Street intersections and up Gomer hill to the snow plow turn around.
A new water tower will be installed on hill side at Snow Ridge on vacant land currently not utilized, the Mayor said.
Finally, there will be upgrades to the treatment plant, including state of art equipment.
The current tower will be torn down.
Stay tuned, we plan to catch up with Mayor Leviker sometime during the first week of the New Year.
