HERKIMER COUNTY- A vote that would have decided which fire department(s) would be tasked with covering the Poland and surrounding regions was postponed Tuesday night.
This development is according to the latest from WKTV.
The Poland Fire District recently cut ties with the Poland Fire Department in August and held a meeting Tuesday night, with aims of cementing neighboring fire departments for coverage.
On the other hand, it is reported that the attorney for the Fire District revealed that the vote would have to be postponed to another time, citing that the board failed to meet the deadline for getting contracts completed.
This is after the board issued a previous statement suggesting they would have prepared contracts for Tuesday’s meeting.
For the time being, Attorney Gary Serio says the Fire District is negotiating with Poland Fire Company and considering options to move forward.
Meanwhile, the Poland and surrounding region is receiving aid from nearby fire departments, but coverage is still not guaranteed.
The next public meeting is aimed for October 20.
