LOWVILLE- It’s modernized and ready to better meet the needs of people in need of services.
That’s what the latest scoop is for the newly renovated Department of Social Services building in Lewis County, or better known now as the new Human Services Building.
It’s located on Stowe Street, right next to the Sheriff’s Office.
During the renovation process for the last several months, workers have been executing their duties from the former Glenfield Elementary School.
However, a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday welcomed back workers to a fully modernized facility. Several local and state officials attended.
“A 40-year-old building is pretty old, but it has so many upgrades for our employees and for our visitors that are coming to get services that they need in Lewis County,” said Commissioner Jennifer Jones.
Department of Social Services, Office for the Aging and Community Services will all be housed there, with a total of 80 employees available to help provide services, officials say.
New cubicles with sliding doors will provide privacy. In addition, some of the new features include conference rooms and a children’s interview room.
