LEE- A head-on crash involved two local people Thursday afternoon in Oneida County, authorities say.
It was just before 4:00 p.m. when 9-1-1 dispatchers were alerted to calls of a head-on crash on Turin Road, town of Lee. The wreck involved a 2012 GMC SUV and a 2016 Subaru SUV.
As of press time, Sheriff’s Office investigation determined Jason Nellenback, 21, of West Leyden, NY was heading south in the GMC and failed to maintain his lane. A collision subsequently occurred with the oncoming Subaru as he crossed the double line.
The Subaru was reportedly driven by Eleanor Kaido, 88, also of West Leyden, NY. Nellenback’s GMC ended up striking a guiderail off the eastern shoulder of the roadway.
Both Nellenback and Kaido were taken to Rome Hospital evaluation. Police say Nellenback complained of head and neck pain, while Kaido had chest pain.
Deputies issued a citation to Nellenback for failing to keep right.
Members from Lee Center Fire Department, AmCare Ambulance and the New York State Police all assisted on scene.
