SHERIFF'S OFFICE: Ava resident was allegedly intoxicated when she struck vehicle on State Route 26

LEE- A local resident from Northern Oneida County was allegedly intoxicated while causing a wreck with another motor vehicle Tuesday night.

According to the Sheriff's Office, patrols came across the scene of a wreck involving two vehicles on State Route 26 in the town of Lee. 

Authorities say it happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. at the Weaver Road intersection. Injuries were initially reported. 

After looking into the matter, Deputies have determined that Cearria J. Anson, 26, of Ava, NY was heading East on the Weaver Road in a 2017 Nissan Rouge.

This is when she reportedly failed to yield the right of way when she arrived to the State Route 26 intersection. Anson subsequently struck a 2017 Subaru Forester, driven by Heidi L. Mantelli, 62, of Lee, NY, who was heading South.

The airbags in Mantelli's Subaru went off upon impact and caused injuries to her chest area, police said. Mantelli was evaluated on scene and then was taken to Rome Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

As a result of further police investigation, Anson was taken into custody for DWI.

Following processing, Anson issued with citations and released to a third party. Charges are returnable to Lee Town Court at a later date.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by AmCare Ambulance and the Lee Center Fire Department.
