JEFFERSON & LEWIS COUNTIES- Authorities have given the go ahead for a solar farm project that will span across portions of Jefferson and Lewis Counties.
On Wednesday, New York’s Department of Public Service revealed that the final siting permit for the Sugar Maple Solar Project has been granted to AES Clean Power.
Officials claim this project is forecasted to create over 430 full-time construction jobs, while maintaining three full-time operations positions.
Expecting to generate 125 megawatts of energy, AES officials are planning to erect solar arrays throughout the town of Wilna and Croghan.
This means $15 million worth of payments and tax revenue to both counties, townships and any school and fire districts.
Those currently living in either township will receive $625,000 in utility bill credits during the first decade of operation.
This project is expected to be finished and operational in 2029.
