SOURCE: One of the former New York CO’s charged in fatal inmate beating at Marcy sentenced to state prison time

UTICA- One of numerous former CO’s at Marcy has been sentenced to prison time in connection to the fatal beating of former inmate, Robert Brooks.

According to the latest developments from WKTV, Christopher Walrath appeared Monday in Oneida County Court and was sentenced to 15-years behind bars. He reportedly took a plea deal for manslaughter earlier this spring, which cancelled out a murder charge, which would have carried a sentence of 25 to life.

Reporters reached out to New York’s DOCCS to inquire if there will be protective custody arranged for Walrath upon his arrival to state prison.

According to a response by the DOCCS, authorities will ultimately analyze the circumstances and decide on which appropriate facilities would be best applicable.

Walrath is one of numerous former guards’ charges in the fatal beating of Robert Brooks. The incident happened last December at Marcy Correctional Facility.
