HERKIMER COUNTY- Several residents within Poland’s fire district attended the latest Joint Fire District meeting on Tuesday as the fire department shutdown continues.

In August, it was reported that Poland Joint Fire District moved to shut the fire department down while internal issues are resolved.

The shutdown was supposed to be temporary.

According to the latest updates from WKTV, there was a motion put forth by Joint Fire District Commissioner, Kelly Wenzel, to re-open the department while still working behind the scenes to resolve the issues. However, since no one stepped up to second the motion, it was tossed.

Reports suggest the meeting was tense and became heated at times, as blame was passed around concerning the current situation.

It is reported that attorneys for both sides of the issue were scheduled to meet this week.

Meanwhile, some of those who attended the meeting called for an independent arbitrator to settle things out.
