WEST LEYDEN- Winter seems to have started off on the earlier side again this year, yet some snowmobile clubs have already sounded the alarm at a select few trespassers riding on closed trails.

“All snowmobile trails located on private land remain CLOSED until the end of hunting season,” said the Southern Tug Hill Sno-Riders in a released statement.

For this year in most parts of the northern zone, hunting season wraps-up at sundown on Sunday, December 7. That means the earliest date snowmobile trails to the north could legally open would be Monday, December 8.

Some clubs will not be able to legally open up their trails to the south until hunting wraps-up in the Southern Tier later on in December.

Every year, snowmobile club officials in New York warn how riding on closed trails or off from designated trails jeopardizes the future of the sport, especially for when it comes to relations with landowners.

Southern Tug Hill Sno-Riders has published a video clip to their Facebook page asking the public’s assistance with identifying these alleged trespassers.

With a decent amount of snow across parts of the North Country, we will begin monitoring any cues for open trails once hunting season has ended.

Be sure to keep an eye out for our Moose Snowmobile Trail reports as well.
