NEWPORT- A larceny investigation last month in Herkimer County has resulted in the arrest of a local resident.

Brian Joseph Smaldon, 20, of Poland, NY was arrested on Thursday evening by the New York State Police (Herkimer) for one felony count each of criminally possessing stolen property in the fourth-degree and tampering with physical evidence, along with one misdemeanor count of conspiracy in the fifth-degree.

Troopers say these charges all stem from a larceny complaint filed on March 14 in the town of Newport.

At press time, police said an investigation was pending. Meanwhile, Smaldon’s arrest status suggested an appearance for centralized arraignment.

There were no further details provided.
