WASHINGTON, D.C. – North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R, NY-21) says Americans have suffered under what she refers to as “unfair” trade policies.

Her remarks bloom in the wake of President Trump’s sweeping tariffs on Wednesday, a day in which he cited as 'Liberation Day.' “I strongly support President Trump’s America First economic policies to strengthen American manufacturing and create millions of American jobs,” Stefanik claimed.

“For too long, Americans have suffered under unfair trade practices putting America Last. We will not allow other countries to take advantage of us and we must put America and the American worker first.”

As the President’s tariffs took effect as of Wednesday, he declared that foreign trade and economic practices have created a national emergency, and his order imposes responsive tariffs to strengthen the international economic position of the United States and protect American workers.

In a statement issued Wednesday from the Governor’s Office, Kathy Hochul, an outspoken critic of Donald Trump, condemned the President’s widespread tariffs.

“Today, Donald Trump enacted the largest tax hike in American history, skyrocketed New Yorkers' costs by over $6,000 per year, and sent Wall Street into a full blown panic," she claimed.

“Trump's tariff proposal isn't ‘liberating.’ It's destructive and devastating for the millions of Americans already struggling to make ends meet. Here in New York, I'm doing everything in my power to bring down costs and grow our economy. The White House needs to work with us, not against us.”

President Trump’s tariffs carry at-least a 10% increase on all imports into the U.S., with some select tariffs even higher on goods from nearly five-dozen other countries.

To clarify, it is reported that Trump’s reciprocal tariffs will not match the ones foreign countries impose on the U.S., unless a country already had a 10% U.S. tariff.
