LEWIS COUNTY- A portion of State Route 26 in the town of Martinsburg will be shut down until this coming fall to allow construction crews to execute a bridge rehabilitation project over Roaring Brook.
Originally constructed in 1978, the bridge is due for some upgrades. In addition to various upgrades and new safety features, such as repairs to the existing abutments, the New York DOT says the project will focus around installing a new superstructure.
“The update and improvements to this bridge will enhance the safety of our roads in Lewis County,” said Chairman for Lewis County Board of Legislators, Lawrence Dolhof.
“Lewis County recognizes the importance of the road system and it's related infrastructure in our County. We greatly appreciate the continued investment that the NYS Department of Transportation is making to the bridge on State Route 26 over Roaring Brook in the Town of Martinsburg."
For frequent travelers along State Route 26, DOT officials advise that a portion of the roadway will be CLOSED around the vicinity of the bridge, starting Monday, April 7.
In the meantime, folks are encouraged to follow the signed detour.
The roadway is expected to re-open come this November, with a project completion date by June 30, 2026.
