Stefanik responds to Governor Hochul’s plea for President Biden to send federal resources amid continuous wave of migrants
WASHINGTON, D.C.- Governor Kathy Hochul has called upon President Biden and his administration to send federal resources to assist amid the ongoing wave of migrants pouring into the state, seeking asylum.
In response to this development, North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY-21) is criticizing New York and federal leaders over border and immigration policies.
“The quickest way for New York to end our illegal immigration crisis and for America to once again secure our borders is for Senate Democrats to pass and for President Biden to sign into law House Republicans’ Secure the Border Act of 2023, which is the strongest border security bill in history,” Stefanik proclaimed.
“This bill would force the Biden Administration to restart construction of the border wall, end catch and release, and deploy personnel and resources to the Southern and Northern Border." Read her full statement below:
"Governor Kathy Hochul's call for President Biden to take executive action to “address” New York's illegal immigration crisis would further incentivize illegal immigration into our state. Spending hardworking taxpayers’ money so that illegal immigrants can receive free housing, healthcare, schooling, and legal services is shameful, all while violent crimes skyrocket across New York State and illegal immigrants are committing heinous crimes. If Governor Hochul was actually serious about addressing this crisis, she would have called on President Biden to end his Far Left open border policies and secure our Southern and Northern Borders,” stated Congresswoman Stefanik. “The quickest way for New York to end our illegal immigration crisis and for America to once again secure our borders is for Senate Democrats to pass and for President Biden to sign into law House Republicans’ Secure the Border Act of 2023, which is the strongest border security bill in history. Following events that have unfolded in Jefferson County recently, there were rumors going around that the state was in the works of creating a pathway to force local governments to accept and house incoming migrants.
However, those whispers were dispelled by the Governor during a press conference last-week, but State Senator Joe Griffo has called out New York City Mayor Eric Adams for apparently requesting state leaders use an executive order to force communities into accepting migrants, according to a recent report in the New York Post.
“While many communities in the state have demonstrated a willingness and interest in welcoming and integrating legal refugees and immigrants, local governments in Oneida, Madison, Herkimer and Chenango counties and elsewhere do not have the resources to deal with this influx of people,” Senator Griffo said.

As reported, New York City has been wrestling this wave of incoming asylum seekers for the past year, accumulating over 100,000 migrants, so far.
