Published on April 25, 2024

CONSTABLEVILLE-A popular local business was damaged by fire.  At 11:24 Wednesday night, a customer at the Highmarket Inn on the Michigan Mills Road in High Market called 9-11 to report that the building was on fire and that smoke and flames were visible. Upon arrival Constableville Firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the area of the structure and flames coming from the attic area. Mutual aid was then requested for scene support including interior firefighters, manpower and Boonville rescue was requested to fill air bottles. Turin fighters developed a fill site in case a tanker relay was needed. With quick work from firefighters, the fire was brought under control. The building, which sustained heavy smoke and water damage, is insured. Mutual aid was received from Constableville Ambulance, Turin, Boonville, and West Leyden Volunteer Fire Departments. Assistance was also received from Lewis County Sheriff’s Deputies and National Grid. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
