LEWIS COUNTY- A loon was rescued from a tangled mess of fishing line on a North Country lake, authorities say.
On July 14, the DEC received calls from people on Lake Bonaparte, who spotted a loon that appeared to be tangled in some fishing line.
Witnesses told officers that a fishing lure also appeared to be attached to the line.
Environmental Conservation Officer Worden responded and managed to locate the entangled loon from the opposite shoreline.
After offering officer Worden a lift on his own boat, the witness who initially called-in took the game warden over towards the loon.
Once they were close enough to have a better idea of what the scenario was, Officer Worden and the witness observed the loon tangled up with braided fishing line, which was all attached to a crank-bait fishing lure.
Fortunately, the loon was eventually freed and released back to the lake.
The DEC would like to thank those who called in.
