Traffic stop results in DWI arrest for Lowville resident, police say

LOWVILLE- A village resident is accused of driving a motor vehicle while having a BAC twice the legal limit, authorities say.

Joseph P. Mahon, 57, was arrested Wednesday evening by the Village Police, following traffic stop on Shady Avenue shortly before 9:00 p.m.

According to Chief of Police Daryl Ortlieb, officers learned while interviewing Mahon that he reportedly had consumed an alcoholic beverage before the traffic stop.

After failing field sobriety tests on scene, Mahon was taken to Lowville Police Department, where he reportedly registered a .16% BAC.

Police charged Mahon with DWI, operating a motor vehicle w/a BAC over .08%, insufficient turn signal, inadequate lights and obstructing governmental administration.

All charges are returnable to Lowville Town Court.
