Published on October 30, 2025

Halloween 2019

The forecast for Halloween certainly looks rainy for trick-or-treaters this year, but officials are reminding both drivers and trick-or-treaters to see and be seen.

Be sure to listen to our latest on-air segment with Lewis County Sheriff, Michael Carpinelli:

For those going out door-to-door for candy on Halloween night, police officials encourage to be more visible with the use of glow-sticks and flashlights. In addition, trick-or-treaters can add reflective tape to their costumes.

For drivers, extra caution is encouraged, especially in residential neighborhoods and near crosswalks. Speaking of which, officials say trick-or-treaters should cross only where there are designated crosswalks (if possible).

Accoridng to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the risk of pedestrian fatalities is 43 percent higher on Halloween compared to any other night.

Studies have also shown an increase in fatal impaired-driving crashes on Halloween. In 2023, according to NHTSA, nearly half of all crash fatalities during Halloween night were alcohol-related.
