TROOPERS: Carthage man arrested, charged for alleged assault

CARTHAGE- A local North Country man is charged in a Jefferson County assault investigation. According to the New York State Police, Troopers responded to an apartment on Bridge Street in the village of Carthage, Jefferson County, for a reported fight last Thursday evening. 

On arrival, Troopers located a victim with a head injury. Troopers provided medical care to the victim until the arrival of Carthage Area Rescue Squad.

Investigation determined that the suspect, later identified as Timothy D. O’Connor, age 28, from Carthage, NY, arrived at the apartment and confronted the victim.

State Police said the victim and O'Connor know one another. 

A verbal altercation reportedly occurred and ultimately turned physical when O’Connor allegedly struck the victim several times with a closed fist.

O’Connor then left the scene prior to State Police arrival, investigators said.

State Police located O’Connor at his residence and questioned him.

Subsequently, O’Connor was placed under arrest and transported to SP Carthage for processing. O’Connor was charged with the following:

  • Assault 3rd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Criminal Trespass 2nd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)

O’Connor was released with an appearance ticket returnable to the town of Champion Court at a later date.
