LOWVILLE- There has been a flurry of reaction, both from social media and from federal officials, regarding the latest developments concerning federal funding that was secured months ago for energy and zero emission infrastructure upgrades at the Kraft-Heinz facility.

On Friday, the U.S. Department of Energy announced that nearly $4 billion has been rolled-back from two-dozen like projects across the country.

Per the Biden era Infrastructure and Jobs Law, the Lowville Kraft Heinz facility was allotted $22 million to help install solar panels, thermal energy storage and etc.

However, that funding was included with the latest DOE cut and Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) is speaking out against this move from the Trump Administration.

"I urge Congresswoman Elise Stefanik to join me in denouncing the Trump administration's callous cancellation of this grant, knowing that this action directly hurts local jobs, undercuts the success of one of the North Country's most beloved employers, and undermines upgrades meant to help a factory that so many of our Upstate dairy farmers rely on," the Senator said.

Meanwhile based on the comments and remarks circulating on social media, it appears as if several North Country folks agree with the Trump administration, citing that the company should be able to tackle such projects and improvements on its own.

To our knowledge, we are not aware of any official statements released from the office of North Country Congresswoman, Elise Etefanik (R-NY-21), regarding this issue.

We will reach out to her office for comment.
