Trump's Syracuse Visit Draws Supporters and Protestors

Published on October 10, 2026

SYRACUSE-Donald Trumps first visit to Syracuse as president on Friday brought thousands of potential voters but for very different reasons. The trip was a campaign rally for GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman. Hundreds of downtown workers left early or stayed at home and even a Syracuse city high school shut down early. Thousands of others flooded downtown. Many wore MAGA gear or carried Trump flags. Nearly euqal numbers carried anti-Trump signs. They gathered in Clinton Square, about half a mile from Trump’s venue at the Oncenter. They carried U.S. flags upside down, a sign of distress. They also carried flags representing Palestine and Canada. As of Friday night, no one was arrested, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office. No violence broke out as hundreds of Trump supporters waited outside the Oncenter and a smaller group of anti-Trump people lingered around the venue.
