Turin Mayor: Elderly couple led to safety during Monday night chimney fire

LEWIS COUNTY- An elderly couple from Southern Lewis County managed to evacuate their home during a chimney fire this week.

This is confirmed by Turin Mayor, Josh Leviker. The Mayor told us a passerby witnessed flames from the roof of 4285 State Route 26.

Calls to 9-1-1 came in shortly before 9:00 p.m. The address reportedly belongs to Ed and Eva Swiernik, the Mayor told us.

Turin Fire Department responded quickly, but it’s reported the passerby went above and beyond to help lead Ed and Eva to safety.

The chimney fire was quickly handled and the home had minor damage.
