LOWVILLE- An unattended candle has been blamed for causing a house fire Friday night in Lewis County, emergency responders say.
Shortly before 10:00 p.m. Friday, Lowville Fire Department was called out to 7646 Park Ave in Lowville, NY for a structure fire.
Lowville Fire Chief Joe Austin says the flames originated in one of the bathrooms. One of the homeowners was on site and trying to extinguish the fire.
Thanks to a fast response, firefighters managed to contain the flames to just the bathroom and had it doused within 15-minutes.
With that said, fire crews remained on-scene for another hour and fifteen minutes to conduct an extensive overhaul.
Although there was significant damage to the bathroom, there were no concerns over the structural integrity of the home.
Minor smoke and water damage was reported throughout the rest of the home.
The address is owned by Matthew and Katie Reynolds.
When all was said and done, a burning candle left in the bathroom is what sparked this fire.
Fire officials say one of the homeowners was evaluated on scene for possible smoke inhalation.
